Extreme Dwarfanators Wrestling organisers threaten to SUE Leicester arena for cancelling event

Date: 20/9/2018
Summary: The organisers of a dwarf wrestling show are threatening to sue a Leicester venue for discrimination after the event was cancelled.

Extreme Dwarfanators Wrestling, which is based in the USA and described as 'family entertainment', is touring the UK next month.

The show came under fire from the UK’s Restricted Growth Association (RGA), which urged venues to reconsider hosting the event.

Gill Martin from the charity said such shows were “about making people laugh at the Victorian spectacle of people with dwarfism fighting each other”.

But now the show organisers have hit back with a similar criticism, telling the BBC they thought the UK had moved away from "Victorian pitch-fork mentality".

The organisers told the broadcaster they would be taking action against the venues for discrimination, while also suing the RGA for “making false claims”.

The other two locations that have cancelled shows are Ferndown Leisure Centre in Ferndown, Dorset, and the Corn Exchange in Devizes, Wiltshire.

Shows are still expected to take place in Cardiff, Torquay, Swansea and Liverpool.

A spokesman for Center Stage Entertainment, which organised the tour, told the BBC: "The wrestlers doing the tour feel this is discrimination and that any person has the right to choose their own career path and should not be told what they can and cannot do."

Morningside Arena, which is home to the Leicester Riders basketball team, declined to comment to Leicestershire Live or the BBC.
