User-Led Organisation Action and Learning Site Project
The story so far
Since LCIL was appointed User Led Organisation for Leicester City by the Department of Health in March 2008, we have made considerable progress through out our project. Working with TREC (The Race Equality Centre) we have made important contacts with BME organisations in Leicester.
One very important part of this project was to have a steering group which is made up of disabled people and carers, we believe that our steering group is diverse and has many strong individuals with much knowledge from their life experiences which provides key insight for this project.
At present we are finalising our training packages these include:
- Independent Living Introduction
- Disability is a Human Rights Issues
- Human Rights and Carers
These training packages will be at the disposal of disabled people and carers giving them the chance to do the training to organisation. These training packages were created from the perspective of disabled people and carers.
All work that is being done through The User Led Action and Learning Site Project will help to prove the need for user led organisations in all local authority areas.
User led organisations benefit commissioners, service providers and disabled people. They have the access to the people who need support services, they have expertise on using the services, they help disabled people with peer support, understanding the social model of disability and independent living. User led organisations have a collective voice and have influence with disabled people interests at heart.
