Disability Host
An introduction to the Disability Host of Leicester
Leicestershire Centre for Integrated Living (LCIL) was elected by Disability Organisations in 2009 to be the host organisation to support individuals representing disabled groups to take an active part in the work of Leicester Partnership.
What is Leicester Partnership?
Leicester Partnership is a strategic partnership of public, private and voluntary sector organisation. Leicester has recently changed its approach to engaging with the disability community and now actively seeks and supports disabled and deaf representatives on its main partnership board.

What is a Host Organisation?
Leicester Partnership recognised the value of engaging disabled representatives and in so doing also acknowledged that support would be required to make the process informative, inclusive and accessible.
A process of selecting the Host organisation was undertaken and LCIL was selected by disability organisation to undertake this role.
How where disability reps chosen?
LCIL believed that this decision needed to be made by the disability community so we set about a process of seeking the views of different groups we contacted 104 organisations and you told us overwhelmingly that you wanted your representative to be from organisations whose main role was in relation to working with disabled people. You also told us that that you would encourage disabled / Deaf people to come forward to be your reps. Please open the feedback from consultation below for further details.

Disability Host Representatives
Two people have come forward and have been nominated to be the Disability Representatives to sit on the Leicester Partnership. LCIL’s two Disability Representatives reflect a very broad makeup of the disability community.
They are Rehana Sidat who is the centre manager for a disability organisation called Ansaar which is a Leicester based community project, specifically set up for people with learning disabilities and Frank Sly who is from the Leicester Deaf Community a small group of Deaf people who are campaigning to support the rights of Deaf people.
The role of the representatives
The role of the representatives is to represent the disability groups in the city, this means that they will have to understand the issues and concerns facing some of the very small groups and harder to reach groups. These issues and barriers faced by theses disability groups will then be presented to the Leicester Partnership. LCIL will be supporting the representatives to achieve their targets in relation to engaging with disability groups in the City of Leicester.
